FREE Oil Paintings Tips -Pigment, Precision and the Process of Creating a Masterpiece

According to the oh so infallible word of Wikipedia, oil paintings or oil painting:is the process of painting with pigments that are bound with a medium of drying oil especially in early modern Europe linseed oil.
Oil paintings are some of the most sought after pieces of art in the world. The art of oil painting goes back thousands of years, and was made popular during the Renaissance with artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, and the like. Oil painting isnt a simple process of applying paint to paper and painting whatever you want. If it were that easy oil paintings would be far more prevalent in the art world, but the actual process of oil painting is a long and laborious one. In some cases, oil paintings can take at least 1 year to complete.
Oil paintings are produced using a process of layering that can take months to complete a single layer. These layers must start out thin and get thicker in order to allow for even drying throughout the painting. Depending on the type of oil being used, it can take up to 6 weeks for a single layer of paint to dry this is why oil paintings are so popular, each painting is a painstaking process that takes skill and patience.
Linseed oil is the oil most commonly used in oil paintings. Linseed oil is extracted from flaxseeds, and is highly prized in the art world for its texture and ability to be applied smoothly. The linseed oil is mixed with pigments (colors), and then applied to the canvas using different strokes. The amount of pigments used in oil painting are many, because you can mix colors with other colors to create any color, shade or tone you want.
There are several different types of oil painting brushes, each one having a different purpose. The hogs bristle brush is made of hog hair and is usually used to make bold strokes. The fitch/mongoose bristle brush is made of the fur of a mongoose and is used for fine and smooth strokes in detail work. The most exclusive and hard to find brush is the brush made from the tail hair of the Siberian Mink. This brush has a super fine point and is known for its good memory (being able to return to a point after being lifted from the canvas).
Some of the most famous oil paintings are: The Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci, La Donna Velato by Raphael, and other oil paintings by masters, such as: Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Renoir, Goya and Thomas Gainsborough.
Oil paintings are beautiful works of art that were created to pass the test of time, so that generations later, people can stand in awe of the creative abilities of men hundreds of years ago.
